JONATHAN REPLIES OBASANJO▼YOUR LETTER'S RECKLESS, BASELESS, DISAPPOINTING."

President Goodluck Jonathan has replied Obasanjo's 18 page letter accusing him (Jonathan) 0f bad leadership. Here is his response through Dr Reuben Abati, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity: "We have noted the publication on several websites today of a letter recently written by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. The Presidency acknowledges that it has indeed received the said letter from Chief Obasanjo. We however find it highly unbecoming, mischievous and provocative that a letter written by a former Head of State and respected elder statesman to President Jonathan  has been deliberately leaked to the mass media in a deplorable effort to impugn the integrity of the President and denigrate his commitment to giving Nigeria the best possible leadership. While many patriotic, objective and well-meaning Nigerians have already condemned the leaked letter as self-serving, hypocritical, malicious, indecent, and very disrespectful of the highest office in the land, President Jonathan has directed that none of his aides or any government official should join issues with Chief Obasanjo over it.The President himself will, at the appropriate time, offer a full personal response to the most reckless, baseless, unjustifiable and indecorous charges levied against him and his administration by the former Head of State."

OBASANJO FINALLY DUMPS JONATHAN▼ADVISES HIM TO DUMP 2015 AMBITION. ▼HIS 18 PAGE LETTER EXPOSED

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has finally dumped President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of mis-governing Nigeria. Obasanjo also advised him not to think about seeking re-eletion in 2015. Mr. Obasanjo  said in an 18-page letter titled “Before it is too late” dated December 2, 2013 that Jonathan has 'failed to deliver on his promises to Nigerians, stem corruption, promote national unity and security. In the detailed letter, dripping of anger, frustration and what appears a genuine concern to rescue a nation on the brink, Mr. Obasanjo lamented that Mr. Jonathan had become terribly divisive and clannish, destroying his own party, polarizing the country along regional and religious lines and ridiculing Nigeria in the comity of nations.Without mincing words, Mr.Obasanjo blamed Mr. Jonathan for the crises tearing the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, apart. He said apart from using party chairman Bamanga Tukur to cause multiple crises and divide the ranks of the party, the president’s failure to keep a promise he made not to seek a second term is also generating tension within the ruling party.THIS EVENING NEWS source is an online news portal, Premium Times. “It would be unfair to continue to level full blames on the Chairman (Tukur) for all that goes wrong with the party,” Mr. Obasanjo said. “The chairman is playing the tune dictated by the paymaster (Jonathan). But the paymaster is acting for a definitive purpose for which deceit and deception seem to be the major ingredients.“Up till two months ago, Mr. President, you told me that you have not told anybody that you would contest in 2015. I quickly pointed out to you that the signs and the measures on the ground do not tally with your statement. You said the same to one other person who shared his observation with me. And only a fool would believe that statement you made to me judging by what is going on. I must say it is not ingenious. You may wish to pursue a more credible and more honorable path.”The former President said Mr. Jonathan told him before the 2011 election he would not seek a second term, and made the same promise to governors, party stakeholders and Nigerians. The president’s refusal to keep that promise cast him as a man without honour, Mr.Obasanjo said.Saying it would be “fatally morally flawed” for Mr. Jonathan to contest in 2015, Mr. Obasanjo added, “As a leader, two things you must cherish and hold dear among others are trust and honour both of which are important ingredients of character. I will want to see anyone in the Office of the Presidency of Nigeria as a man or woman who can be trusted, a person of honour in his words and character.”Mr. Obasanjo also accused Mr. Jonathan of anti-party conducts – supporting opposition parties’ candidates in governorship elections in Lagos, Ondo, Edo and Anambra states at the detriment of PDP’s own candidates –, and of pitting party members against one another.Saying the President had failed to address the underlying causes of the Boko Haram menace, Mr. Obasanjourged Mr. Jonathan to adopt a carrot and stick approach in dealing with the insurgency explaining that “conventional military actions based on standard phases of military operations alone will not permanently and effectively deal with the issue of Boko Haram”.Mr. Obasanjo also tackled Mr. Jonathan for allegedly being clannish. “For you to allow yourself to be “possessed”, so to say, to the exclusion of most of the rest of Nigerians as an “Ijaw man” is a mistake that should never have been allowed to happen. Yes, you have to be born in one part of Nigeria to be Nigerian if not naturalized but the Nigerian President must be above ethnic factionalism. And those who prop you up as of, and for ‘Ijaw nation’ are not your friends genuinely, not friends of Nigeria nor friends of ‘Ijaw nation’ they tout about.“To allow or tacitly encourage people of ‘Ijaw nation’ to throw insults on other Nigerians from other parts of the country and threaten fire and brimstone to protect your interest as an Ijaw man is myopic and your not openly quieting them is even more unfortunate. Two Ijaw men, ex-militant Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, and a former federal commissioner for information, Edwin Clark, who carries himself around as the political godfather of the president, are known to talk down on people opposed to the president .Mr. Obasanjo also accused Mr. Jonathan of placing over 1000 Nigerians on political watch list and “training snipers and other armed personnel secretly and clandestinely acquiring weapons to match for political purposes like Abacha and training them where Abacha trained his killers”.He wondered why the Presidency was providing assistance for a murderer to evade justice.“Presidential assistance for a murderer to evade justice and presidential delegation to welcome him home can only be in bad taste generally but particularly to the family of his victim,” Mr. Obasanjo said. “Assisting criminals to evade justice cannot be part of the job of the presidency. Or, as it is viwed in some quarters, is he being recruited to do for you what he had done for Abacha in the past? Hopefully, he should have learned his lesson. Let us continue to watch.”Mr. Obasanjo did not mention the name of the murderer he accused the President of protecting but he seems to be referring to Hamza Al-Mustapha, a former security aide to late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, who is facing trial for allegedly masterminding the killing of Kudirat Abiola, the wife of Moshood Abiola, the winner of the annulled 1993 presidential election.Mr. Al-Mustapha was freed by the appeal court in July but the Lagos state government has since appealed the judgment at the Supreme Court. The former President also called on the National Assembly to rise up and take decisive action over the recent allegation in the country . "May God grant you the grace for at least one effective corrective action against high corruption which seems to stink all around you in your government.”Mr. Obasanjo said he wrote the letter in the national interest, saying nothing, at this stage of his life, would prevent him from standing up for whatever he considers to be in the best interest of Nigria, Africa and the world. He said he was ready for whatever backlash his letter would provoke from the presidency. Knowing what happens around you most of which you know of and condone or deny, this letter will proke cacophony from hired and unhired attackers but I will maintain my serenity because by this letter, I have done my duty to you as I have always done, to your government, to the party, PDP, and to our country, Nigeria". Mr.Obasanjo said.Ihave passed the stage of being flattered, intimidated, threatened, frightened, induced or bought… Death is the end of all human beings and may it come

MANDELA THE GREAT GOIN HOME IN A BLAZE OF GLORY▼100 WORLD LEADERS GRACE HIS MEMORIAL SERVICE.

Former South African President and iconic anti apartheid crusader,Nelson Mandela who died on Thursday, December 5,2013 has begun his final journey with a memorial service attended by over 100 world leaders. Thousands of South Africans united in proud, noisy celebration that memorable Tuesday at a rain-soaked emotional farewell service watched by millions around the world.Songs of praise and revolution, many harking back to the apartheid era that Mandela helped condemn to history, echoed around the giant stadium in Soweto where close to 100 world leaders had come to pay tribute to a man whose life story earned uncommon universal respect. The event began at midday (1000 GMT) with a stirring rendition of the national anthem, Nkosi Sikeleli Afrika (God Bless Africa), led by a mass choir and picked up with enthusiasm by the rest of the stadium. Some 80,000 had been expected, but the venue was two-thirds full as the ceremony got underway under a curtain of rain that had been falling since the early morning. Despite the profound sense of national sorrow triggered by Mandela’s death last Thursday, the mood was upbeat, with people determined to celebrate the memory of one of the 20th century’s towering political figures. “His long walk is over, he can finally rest,” African National Congress (ANC) Vice President Cyril Ramaphosa said in an opening address. In his tribute, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon noted that Mandela had managed to unite people in death, much as he had in life “Look around this stage … we see leaders representing many points of view … all here, all united,” he said. US President Barack Obama took the stage thereafter and described Obama as a ‘giant of history’. Crowds had begun gathering before daybreak and, as the gates opened, they swarmed into the stadium, where Mandela made his last major public appearance at the 2010 World Cup final.Wrapped in the South African flag or yellow-green coloured shawls printed with the slogan “Mandela Forever,” they danced and sang, oblivious to the constant drizzle. Y “He’s God given, he’s God taken. We will never stop to cherish him,” said Shahim Ismail, who took a day off from the sports academy he runs in Johannesburg to attend the event.“This is once in your life. This is history,” said Noma Kova, 36. “I didn’t want to watch this on TV.” •A screen shows South African former president Nelson Mandela during his memorial service at the FNB Stadium (Soccer City) in Johannesburg today.Mandela’s widow, Graca Machel, received a huge ovation as she took her seat on the main stage constructed at one end of the pitch, while the entrance of President Jacob Zuma was roundly booed by a portion of the crowd. As images of Zuma flashed up on the big screens inside the Soweto stadium, there were sustained and repeated jeers from the tens of thousands of onlookers present.Amid the tuneful celebrations to Mandela’s life, the heckles were jarring.Mandela’s immediate successor Thabo Mbeki received applause in what often appeared to turn into a political beauty contest. The presidents that followed Mandela have all lived in his political shadow, but Zuma has been stalked by political crisis. Most recently he was accused of spending $20 million (14.5 million euros) of taxpayers’ money to refurbish his private home. Mandela’s ex-wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was also present. Obama missed the first hour of the ceremony, as his motorcade struggled through the rain-deluged route to the stadium, but was loudly cheered on his arrival. In his speech, President Barack Obama eulogized Nelson Mandela as a “giant of history” who became more than a smiling icon by showing the power of political action.“It is hard to eulogize any man … how much harder to do so for a giant of history, who moved a nation towards justice,” Obama said, after being introduced to wild cheers from a rain-sodden crowd. On the eve of the memorial, Nobel laureate Desmond Tutu described Mandela as a “magician” who conjured a united nation out of a country teetering on the brink of civil war.And his eldest daughter, Makaziwe Mandela, told how her father spent a “wonderful” week surrounded by family before he died.“The children were there, the grandchildren were there … so were always around him, even at the last moment,” Ahead of the burial in Qunu, Mandela’s body will lie in state for three days from Wednesday in the amphitheatre of the Union Buildings in Pretoria where he was sworn in as president in 1994. Each morning, his coffin will be borne through the streets of the capital in a funeral cortege, to give as many people as possible the chance to pay their final respects. British Prime Minister David Cameron, French President Francois Hollande, Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Nigeria President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan were among the leaders attending the memorial ceremony. "We were told it was appropriate to wear a black tie,” Cameron said after arriving at the stadium in Soweto.“But when you come and your hear this great noise and this great atmosphere of celebration, it is clear that people here in South Africa want to, yes, say goodbye to this great man, yes commemorate what he did, but also celebrate his life and celebrate his legacy,” he said.Africa was represented by Nigeria’s Goodluck Jonathan and more than a dozen other heads of state and government.Singer-activist Bono and South African actress Charlize Theron were among the celebrity mourners. One radiant celebrant in the crowd, Musa Mbele, his clothes drenched by the rain, declined the offer of an umbrella.'If he was able to stay behind bars for 27 years for us, what is one day?just one rain drenched day.'' ASUU DEFIES FG'S ORDER▼AS STRIKE CONTINUES.

Despite the Federal Government's sack threat, aggrieved lecturers in Nigeria universities have refused to return to return to work. The Acting Minister of Education , Chief Nyesom Wike had ordered university teachers to return to the class room or lose their job. Massively lampooned for the needless threat, President Goodluck Jonathan had denied it, passing the buck to the Committee of Pro Chancellors of Nigeria Universities. But some of his media men have been singing different tunes. FG would still go on to give ASUU till December 9, 2013 to go back to school. Not disturbed by the sack threat dangling over their heads,ASUU leaders yesterday vowed to fight FG with the last drop of their blood. Relatedly, all the universities that had announced resumption dates after FG's directive are yet to commence lectures. And the situation would remain the same until the more than five- month old industrial dispute is resolved.

Kano's Rabiu Kwankwaso and the Governor of Sokoto state, Aliyu Wamakko are currently in a peace meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan in this respect. Kcking off fresh talks on Sunday, December 7,2013,the meeting was held at the First Lady's Conference Hall at the Presidential Villa,Abuja. And in attendance were a member of the defunct G7 Governors,Alhahi Babangida Aliyu of Niger state, National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki, (Rtd.) and Chairman PDP Board of Trustees,Chief Tony Anenih. There is know resolution yet from the crucial peace meeting that excluded other PDP rebel governors like Rivers Rotimi Amaechi,Jigawa state Governor,Alhaji Sule Lamido as well as Governors Abdulfatah Ahmed and Murtala Nyako of Kwara and Adamawa states. A jittery PPD and embattled President Jonathan have been strategizing to arrest the spate of defection threatening the ruling party's majority in the National Assembly.Equally worrisome to the PDP is the loss of some of its states the opposition APC.
